Origin Story
Multiple producers (Sumatra, Kenya)
Doña Sofia Plocharski (Guatemala)
This crowd-pleasing blend is rich and smooth, featuring a deep-toned Lintong coffee sourced from small garden farms in the Lake Toba region of Sumatra. Processed using the wet-hull method, this coffee possesses a distinctive flavor profile of sweet grapefruit and aromatic wood that are the foundation of Equator Blend.
To enhance the complexity, we incorporate a fully washed coffee from Kenya that brightens the blend and brings out the flavors of its other components. Kenya has one of the most sophisticated systems for compensating high-quality lots. Registered buyers taste samples weekly and compete in auctions where the best coffees are rewarded. Due to the small size of auction lots, our partners purchase multiple lots of similar
quality and use a thorough grading process to achieve the consistency needed for the blend.
The finishing touch is another fully washed coffee from the San Marcos region in Western Guatemala. Produced by Sofia Plocharski on her farm, Armenia Lorena, this coffee is part of Onyx Coffee’s ELLA - Women Producers of Guatemala program, which highlights female producers, shares their stories, and provides market access. This coffee adds notes of chocolate and spice, contributing a sweetness that perfectly balances the more assertive flavors in Equator Blend.

Why We Love This Coffee
Our namesake blend features coffees from some of the world’s best known growing regions, and together these coffees create a smooth and complex blend. Equator Blend is roasted in a way that makes it versatile – dark and robust enough to stand up to the addition of milk, yet sweet enough to drink black. We love it so much that we feature it on batch brew at all of our cafes!
